I enjoyed Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Jiro's virtuosity and rigid sushi classicism held me spellbound. I was astonished to learn that it requires about 10 years apprenticeship at Jiro's to master specific techniques. Though 10 years sounds a lot like the 10,000 hour rule that Gladwell writes about in Outliers doesn't it seem ridiculously arduous compared to the rate at which we mint culinary geniuses here in Philly or the USA in general?
.
This is a plate for 2. 2 barbarians. We devoured every last bite. Using excellent fish, uni and softshells from Metropolitan Seafood via Stockton Mkt. we savored another sushi Sunday. My rice is improving!

Grande Ricotta
Grande ricotta works fantastically in Peach, Pistachio & Ricotta Tart. We used Beechwood Orchards peaches canned in water.

How We Roll Home Made Style
This plate uses tuna, uni, halibut and snapper from Metropolitan Seafood via Stockton Farmers Market. The fish quality was excellent. The shrimp came from WFM they were acceptable quality for tempura-ing. My rice was not too bad. I practiced a few times using this knowledgeable blogger's expertise.
The halibut with spicy mayo, uni and avocado was our favorite.

Easter Sunday
A fantastically beautiful day in Philly and in Cape May. We enjoyed Good Spoon tomato soup and Market Day mushroom tart for lunch al fresco.

Garden Pics
This Japanese maple is in a pot out front. I'm not sure of its cultivar name.
Acer palmatum 'Yu bae' flowers.
Asimina triloba 'Sunflower' blossoms at this time of year. Flowers, pollinated by ants and flies, develop into amazing fruits.
Camellia japonica 'April Dawn' has a dazzling flower but lacks the cosmically fresh fragrance of its fall blooming neighbor sasanqua.

Philly Farm and Food Fest
This year's event was a fantastic leap in scale and participation from previous events. Fair Food and PASA did an amazing job.
